During my research career I have always been interested in heterocyclic chemistry, in special those that involve the synthesis of molecules that are used as dyes, which have photophysical properties and are used as laser dyes. In this field, the molecules that were studied corresponding at oxaxin-2-ones derivatives, those compounds were chemically and photos chemically characterized. On the other hand, my work has also been focused on bioactive molecules of quinone derivatives, this kind of compounds showed antiproliferative activity on some cancer lines.Imagen 1 canete

Other field that started my interest relates to odorants chemistry, in special the synthesis of deuterium labelled wine flavorings. Those compounds have been used as quantification flavorings standards on diverse matrix of wine, for example, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon blanc. This research is carried out jointly with the Faculty of Engineering and the Flavors Centre at PUC.

I am currently working on the design and synthesis of: a) quinoxalin-2-ones b) coumarins. The quinoxalin-2-ones have interesting biological properties and these compounds have been synthetized for the photophysical and photochemical study in presence or absence of amino acids, joined with Professor Julio de la Fuente (University of Chile). On the other hand, coumarins have been used for different purposes such as, obtaining new ion metal complexes as chromophore, which acting as sensors of external perturbation as the inclusion inner of host macrocycles, for example cyclodextrins and cucurbiturils.

In the near future, I plan to carry out the study and design of new coumarin, formazan and oxazin-2-ones chromophores for its potential use as: organic or molecular dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSCs), as ionic metallic sensor, in material chemistry as optical devices and as guess interactions inner host macrocycles.
